This stamp commemorates a battle that Washington was on the losing side. He was serving as an aide-de-camp to General Braddock who commanded the British forces at the time. However during the battle Washington, evaded injury (several times) and demonstrated bravery and leadership. The result of which is that it boosted his military career all the way to the top.
