30c Deep ultramarine, a scarce Presidential franking on attractive multicolor cacheted cover showing Gooney Birds of Midway Island, tied by "Midway Det. 3rd Def. Bat. Fleet Mar. Force/Jul 2 1941" duplex, from a corporal in the Machine Gun Group stationed on the island about eleven months before the Battle of Midway, which was considered to be the decisive battle of the war in the Pacific, sent to a Marine Sergeant in New York city, very mild vert. bend not affecting the stamp, very fine; only a few covers are know used in this fashion from Midway Island and they are highly prized by "Prexy" collectors, even setting recent records on eBay
