The Swedish Tiger US Stamp Identifier

And it is George Washingtons Head

This is what your stamp looks like:

Bottom Line
This is a great stamp to own. One of the first two stamps issued by the Post Office
in the US, back in 1841. My advice is to keep this stamp in the family as an heirloom, it is an important
piece of American history. If it has a post mark it is worth around $1,000, if it has no
postmark you are in the $6,000 to $10,000 range. Because of its rarity, the
condition of the stamp means everything. Read below for further information. One should
mention that the stamp was re-printed in 1875. For postmarked stamps there is not much
difference in value between the original and the re-print. Unfortunately the unused versions are
only worth one thousand, you will need an expert to tell the difference, chances are if it is
unused it is a reprint. The originals are scott catalog # 2, the re-print # 4.

Can I learn more about the stamps value ?
To find the value of your stamp go my main site and look up your number on the left.
You will see different terms used. MNH (mint never hinged) means that the stamp has gum
that it is absolutely 100% undisturbed. Usualy a disturbance of the gum has been caused
by the stamp being previously having a stamp hinge applied to the gum. In some
cases, the stamp hinge, or remains of the hinge, will still be stuck to the stamp. In
which case the stamp is called MH (mint hinged).

Used means the stamp has a postmark on its front, no matter how small. It is important that
the stamp is undamaged, that means it is not creased, torn or has a 'thin'. A thin means
the stamp has thinned paper, even a speck of thinned paper will seriosly affect the value of
the stamp. A quick and dirty way of detecting a thin is to hold it to the light, it will
catch 90% of the thins out there.

Lastly there are all sorts of other determing factors that determine its value, how well
is the design centered in the stamp (a 100 point stamp has perfect centering, a 70 point
stamp not so good centering). How white is the paper, and on and on. Genrally if the stamp
is valuable then you will need an expert to give you a real appraisal of its value.
